Spoon Rest

Post by Samson »

The flip spoon rest that I made a while ago, was a big hit.
So, I expanded on the design and now offer a few different shapes.
Here is one of a cat, that I also used for an address sign last year.
This is a birthday gift for the MIL this weekend.
I hope she likes it.
It's made from Corian.

I had to look at that twice, must be the shadowing playing tricks on my eyes because first glance it looked like the spoon shape was domed rather than dished

Bit more work for you but would be nice if you could still incorporate the flip over bit for the spoon

This is just a spoon rest, so it's approximately 6.5" tall. It could be scaled to any size, such as the address sign I made, which was 1.75' tall.
This could easily be made into a cutting board or cheese board or even a candle base.

Martin:

I considered the flip piece, but there were several faults to including it. First was my MIL would break it in no time. She's a little careless, so minimal is best.
Another was that this Corian closely matches her counter tops and with a simple flat bottom, it can rest on the backsplash when not in use, for decoration.

I just received an order for three cutting boards as Christmas gifts. I hope to get them done this weekend.

Now I have a picture in my head of her searching all over the counter to find it

Corian cutting boards ?? If that's the case then your bargain buy is certainly proving useful

We just gave it to her and she was thrilled. It is now resting nicely on her backsplash right beside her stove.
It is just slightly lighter in color than her countertop, so it might not get lost on it. :)

Martin:

Yes they are Corian cutting boards.
And yes, the investment was well worth it. I have made many items using different colors and I haven't even made a dent in it yet.
If I can continue selling small items, I should be able to re-coup my investment fairly soon.
