Conventional almost always gives cleaner cuts. The only time I climb cut wood products is when cutting rabbets that are running with the grain.

Depends on the machine. On mine, I cut ply, MDF and melamine with a 3/8" compression bit, most of the way through leaving a 1/32" onion skin that gets cut through last. If I cut conventional I sometimes get a step when the final cut goes through the onion skin, which messes up the edge bander. Cutting climb avoids this. Appears there's a little flex and the bit is pulling into the material during the initial deep cut.
