Seattle Skyline Wood Inlay Project

Post by dglasco »

I saw a picture of the Seattle Skyline made out of glass and decided to see if I could make the same picture out of wood and give it to my son who just moved from there to Maryland. The entire project was drawn using Aspire and all the pieces were cut out on my CNC (no scroll saw used in the making of this project).

The last picture is the glass art in which I based my design.

Al in all, I though the inlay came out very nice. I believe my son will enjoy it.

That's really nice. I had looked at some of the stained glass and intarsia patterns. Although I have to admit that I really ought to get that new in the box, more than several year old Excalibur scrollsaw setup and do some of these projects with it as well. Thank you.

I must admit that was one of the challenging parts of the project was getting the wood grain orientation the way I wanted. I think with a scroll saw it would have been easier to visualize the grain patterns better but with the CNC I could cut a lot of pieces at once.

Looks like it rains a lot in Seattle :D
Just like here, we have the world's biggest gumboot and a neighbouring town has umbrellas.
