Upon completing my machine and before installing a control pendent I would set Z0 manually. I would turn the controller off and turn Z stepper shaft with a small wrench until the tool touched the material surface. This actually works quite well but using the wrench was a bit troublesome so I designed a simple knob to replace the wrench, and since the knob is attached to the motor shaft the procedure became alittle esaier.
So, as with the first knob I posted this one that may prove of some value and if nothing else it covers the open end of the motor shaft.
