New Items
Just a note to show some of the new items I have been working on.
Mostly all done from scratch in Aspire, Except the face of John Sevier.
Adding a "live Edge" to lengths of white oak was certainly a first.

Very nice- would love to see how you made the file for the 'live' edge. Gene

Re: New Items
Thanks for the kind words.
Gene, Here is how I did it.
I was given the shape that the client wanted, 3” x 2.5” x 98” and wavy,,,
In the pictures attached you can see the “edge” is made up from three parts.
The flat area, which is just a square component,
a sloped area, which is made from the two rail sweep
and the rough texture which is from the clip art that came with Aspire. ( Bark 3 )
Taking the time to create good vectors is really the trick.
It just took a bit of playing around to get the correct height of the texture because it was added not merged to the slope component.

Re: New Items
Great job, as always.
Another method is to save the real trimmed edges from raw lumber and glue them to panels.... no wonder I have so much stuff in my shop. dh

Michael, Those are just awesome. Washington's face is astounding and the rearing horse is terrific. I especially like the detail in the eye.

Re: New Items
Michael,
Thanks for posting the heads up on the 'bark' file. I've ran the bark 3 but not getting a defined texture. I've used 1/4" and 1/2" ball nose bits. Any tips on settings? Do you use the texture or 3d tool to create the tool path?

Re: New Items
Don,
If I understand your question correctly, the shape height of the texture componen was increased to make it more pronounced.
That's where the problem came from.
The texture was then too high in relationship to the flat top of the material.
The slope shape needed to be lowered enough so the texture, which is sitting on top of the slope, would be no higher then the height of the flat section.
I used a 1/4" ball end, 3-D finishing tool path.

I'm now more confused. Actually I was referring to getting a more pronounced texture on a 2D surface, not the contour you have on the live edge piece. I've tried Bark 1,2 and 3 but no great detail. I am using it on a fairly small area, 2"x 21"so that is likely my issue.

Re: New Items
Mike,
where did you get the sailfish, please?
My neighbour is still floating on cloud nine after catching "The Ultimate Fish" in his little open tinnie on a handheld rod today
I feel that I just HAVE to make him a plaque, he is such a nice person.

Ms, Wolffie,
I made the model myself..
It was for a client of ours that makes 3-D signs...
We create 2-3 custom 3-D models a week....
Don,
Just increase the shape height, you may need to then smooth the roughness a bit
Michael
Thanks

Thank you, I would have never found that function. It's apparent I need to review the tutorials.
