Carved Heart

Post by Longknife »

Many months ago, after only recently being introduced to VCarve and CNC, I inquired about a bark texture and how to achieve it.

http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php? ... 06#p156306

My machine was down for a few months to (got it sorted out thankfully!) and I was finally able to finish this project just in time.

I rendered the bark texture from a jpeg in AI and I'm pretty happy with the results. I may try this again with some different stains/finishes.

The only big issue was the run time. The bark was about 6 hours of machine run time alone and my stepper motors were almost too hot to touch.

Thanks for the help along the way!

Wonderful looking bark. Well worth the length of time it took to do it.

That's how the motors are meant to run, don't worry about it. Great project!

I bought aluminum heat sinks from an electronics supply online and applied them to the 4 sides of my steppers. Seems to help keep them a bit cooler. Norm
