Sack Time Clock
I came across some very interesting Nose Art from the planes of WW2 while surfing the web.
Making a vintage looking clock lead me to find Nixie tubes for the numbers....
A nice project to push my limits of Aspire.
Overall size is 18” X 10” X 3”
Quarter sawn white oak for the base,,,,,next one will be in maple
Black walnut for the ribs,,,,maybe redwood next
Purpleheart for the words.....
The figure was modeled separately but all was worked to completion in Aspire...
It would make a nice item for a vintage collector or man cave...

I like it a lot. Nixie tube displays were standard fare when I first entered electronics technician work.

Wow - Wow - Wow - Wow! That's got to be the coolest thing I've seen here.
I've never heard of Nixie Tubes. Did you get a Nixie Tube clock and take it apart to use in your piece, or is there a "kit" with the needed electronics for DIY'ers to build their own clock.
Wow, Wow, Wow, some more...

Re: Sack Time Clock
Chris,
I bought the tubes and the circuit board that runs the clock as a unit, already made without a case.
You can get the parts separately and there's even a site that shows you how to make your own circuit board.
The bulbs are getting rare as they were made from 1955 to about 1970,,or so I'm told...
New design on the drawing board...stay tuned...
Thanks,
Michael

Re: Sack Time Clock
Ok have to agree with everyone else that it's a terrific bit of work BUT would it really be suitable for a vintage collector ?? Surely they collect complete vintage items not something new that uses some old style parts lol
Not that it really matters, sure there would be no shortage of interested people, collectors or not. Thanks for taking the time to post Michael, never get tired or looking at your work.

Re: Sack Time Clock
Martin,
It was never my intent to pass this off as an original “vintage” item.
It was meant to appeal to those of us that enjoy that style of art.
I do believe that even the serious vintage collector would have a novelty item in there collection.
Not as part of the historical collection but as a side item, something that caught their fancy.
But, not to worry,, I already have two sold....now I just need to get them done.....

Re: Sack Time Clock
Michael, it was tongue in cheek, never thought for one minute you would try & pass it off as something it wasn't, why would you when as I said there would be more than enough interest anyway, as I said never get tired of looking at the stuff you post & always looking forward to seeing the next project.
