Need to modify a model created in Aspire

Post by GeneMpls »

I am making a piece for the dash of my CTS caddy coupe... I got this far and carved it from HDU but it needs more work. I got this far with the 2 rail
sweep and a lot of tinkering with the vectors. I have sketchup and exported as a .stl (at 200k triangles- probably too high?) and opened in sketchup but
I am wondering if there is a different 3d modelling prog I should try instead? It will hold a 7" gps BTW. Thanks Gene

Any other program you're going to face a learning curve so I would think you'd be much better off finishing it in Aspire.

Thanks Adrian- I would really like it to be a double sided carve. I haven't tried re-opening it as a stl... just did and didn't work so well. I think I can
get pretty close to where I am going by slicing it and hollowing out the lower slices. I love this program- someday maybe I will be within shouting
distance of its capabilities. Thanks Adrian- I needed that- Gene

After fiddling with it last Sunday and a bit today... here is the result. I did a quick sanding on my new Ridgid oscillating
spindle/belt sander- also an undercut on the lower slice of course. I learned a lot! Thanks again. Gene

Looks good. I need to make some similar parts for my race car soon. Good to know it can be done.
