Rope Design?

Post by SawDust913 »

I have 2 models her; model 1 is one that I created from V-Carve, model 2 is a bought model. What I would like to know is it possible with V-Carve 6.5 or 7.0 to make the rope design that is the center circle on model 2; I'd like to put the rope on the outside perimeter of model 1. These FireMan Crosses are a big hit, I get a donation of $35 for these personalized Plaques.

Your model 2 has a 3d rope border, so you cannot create that directly with VCP. You could buy that as a model or fake it with v carving. I think I have one stored away - I'll look for it.

Maybe you can use this one. Highlight the vectors and set a toolpath to vcarve. Hope it works for you.

By the way, if you use material with a more uniform grain pattern, your plaques would be easier to read...just a matter of personal taste. Try some in cherry, or maple, alder or even poplar.

Thanks, Jim, but not my original work...found it somewhere a few years ago and was still on my computer. I had used it on a Marine Corps plaque for my brother.

Thanks I'll give the rope a try. I have made plaques from Cherry and yes they do look smother and lettering stands out; but considering the price of Cherry vs. Oak @ 80 cents BF! I have to get a bigger donation.

VectorArt3D also has that rope you can purchase. I used 3DMachinist software (free dl on the site) to create the toolpath and loaded it into VcarvePro also for a USMC plaque for a friend of mine.

Thanks VCarve Wizard, I didn't even think of going to Vector Art. Is there a way to cut the rope with V-Carve 7? or bend it in the corners of the cross? I tried with the other rope to cut the rope to make it fit but had no luck with that.
