Ocean blue touch-up paint.
Not the mirror side, the grey side.
The mirror is still there, protected with brown paper, except where the paper had been scratched away before I got it.
When I have finished my aluminium piece I am going to try the mirror.

Re: Plexi mirror
To me, the grey side is the mirror side. It is the material which produces the mirror like reflection. Obviously, the other side, which is 95% of the material, is plexi. I'm not getting how ocean blue can restore reflection, maybe I'm missing something ,,, But glad it worked for you.

Re: Plexi mirror
When I sanded the grey layer off, it was down to clear perspex, the mirror is on the other side where the paper is. When I peel the paper off, the reflection is there. Where the paper has been scratched away, the reflection is gone as well.
The ocean blue was just the colour I chose instead of the grey.
I just did another piece where I painted it chrome, will be interesting to see how that turns our.

Re: Plexi mirror
Wolffie, that 'mirror' must have been a custom product because as Xxray says, the grey side is the mirror side. At least on standard mirrors, whether glass or acrylic.Wolffie wrote:Ocean blue touch-up paint.

The grey coating is not the 'mirror' per se but a protective coating of the reflecting layer. Although the process is still called 'silvering', the 'silver' nowadays is mostly aluminium and the grey coating is to protect this so-called 'silver' layer.
I am truly curious as to what you got there, but interesting it is.
By the way, I have seen highly reflective 'chrome' in rattle cans. Never tried it but you have given me an idea there.

Re: Plexi mirror
I tried out some chrome spray on a similar design, and it turned out awful. Looked a sickly milky white rather than chrome.
More experimentation is in order, perhaps it just doesn't react well to certain surfaces.

Re: Plexi mirror
I found out this particular mirror has the reflective layer sandwiched between 2 clear layers.
