SLDPRT file for Cut3D

Post by Hard Road »

I have a SLDPRT file for a Les Paul Carve top that I want to create tool paths in Cut3D, I tried to save it as an STL file using E drawing but when it loads in Cut3D it is flat, any ideas? Thanks in advance, cheers Paul.

I've never tried to convert to STL using eDrawings. I ususally export direct from Solidworks. But I've never had happen what you are describing. Do you have the ability to export directly from Solidworks?

No I don't have Solid Works, I have AutoCad. I was given the file as a SLDPRT and told to download E drawings and open the file in it, which I did. In E drawings it shows it as a 3D Carve top, but when saved as a SLT file (as I was instructed) it opens in Cut3D but as a flat object? If I emailed you the file would you be able to open it in Solid Works and save it as an SLT file that would work in Cut3D? Cheers Paul.

If it's not proprietary, post the file and we can see what we can do...

It looks incomplete to me. It comes in with 3D sketches, but they aren't lofted or turned into a 3D surface at all. I'm not sure how it is supposed to work, but it's not actually a surface, so it wont export a proper .STL.

And actually, when I open it in edrawings I get the same thing, an extruded base, then a curved implied surface, but not full construction.

Somehow these 3d Sketches must be converted to a surface before anything can be done with this.

FWIW I opened that file in solidworks to convert for you and it is not extruded in 3d. It has sketches at multiple heights but that's it.
