Carving along an axis

Post by DougO »

When carving a project in Vector Art 3d, what determines which raster angle to use, along the x axis, y axis or 45 degrees.

thanks,
Doug

Its really down to personal preference on the finish you want. I know some people who prefer to machine along the grain for instance but also many who like to machine across it. In addition the type of model you are cutting may affect your choice. In some cases if there are a lot of horizontal edges then it is good to cut in Y to avoid larger steps on those faces or vice versa. I guess my best advice is to try different choices if you are not sure - then preview the finish and see which looks best (in your opinion).

Others may have more technical reasons for choosing the direction.

Thanks,
James
