I had some lines and raises similar in another post. It looked like a fairly repeatable issue.
The folks here pointed me towards the answer, but it took a little research.
I had a few settings enabled on my control pc that were taking resources away. The reason for some of the repeat ability was the length of time the process was running and the power management delay setting. On long cuts I tended to let the machine run with little interaction with the pc. It was trying to index, hibernate, scan etc. you get the picture. The control software stayed operational, but the background was pulling down the output.
Depending on your control software and pc something to check for. I followers the xp optimization setting for mach3 that I use and the problem went away.
The guide can be found here: http://machsupport.com/downloads/XP_Optimization.txt
Hope this helps

Re: Why oh why does this keep happening
doug is using wincnc which has a daughterboard for the controller operation, this runs autonomusly of the cpu mother board, this is really cool as on mine i surf design and whatever i wish while running my machine i have had some of the same problems and was leaning to steploss yet step loss is usually just that, a loss that does not recover,, in this case there is actually a rise and fall or blip,, this can be soo many things with bukooo variables, he has also reported it is different on separate files and is not consistant, i had it happen and then it stopped,, he has also done some doggone good work since he reported this,

Jim is right, there is no real consistency to this problem. It seems to come and go, the crucifix design though almost always some of these misteps happen. Haven't had time to mess with it due to heavy work schedule, still following the thread with interest [thanks for the suggestions], and look forward to more diagnosis once time permits.
