photo carv problem
I am having problems using photocarv. I cannot find a good starting point for setup of the carving. Cutting depth etc. I am carving in wood, have tried a lot of setting but cannot get decent results. Can anyone give me a few startign points to begin? I have been using a 60 degree bit.

Re: photo carv problem
I have done some experimenting with the setting on the thread you suggested and did not get very good results. I am missing something I think. My pictures do not come out nearly as good.
Does the quality of the photo make a difference? Do you need a rather high quality resolution?

Hi Norm
Can you post the picture you are trying to V carve and the size you want it? Do you have pictures of photos you cut? Yes the quality of the photo does made a difference but I don’t think this is your problem. I have worked with some low quality pictures with good results.

I am not able to upload the carve file it's too large I am trying to make something like a 4 x 6 not large at all.
Re: photo carv problem
What size do you want to make it?

Re: photo carv problem
I have strated with approximately 4" x 6"
Re: photo carv problem
Sorry I missed that.. 4x6 would be to small to get that much in a photo V Carved picture. Also the picture is poor quality but the size you want to make is the bigger of the two problems.

Re: photo carv problem
I was thinking like a photo the smaller you make it the less grain showes so the more detail you get I guess Vcarve wortks a bit differently. I can make this up to 24 inches wide and I think it comes out to 15" high. I am not able to see much difference on the computer screen I know what you see is not always what youget finished.
Re: photo carv problem
What you see is what you get. So if you don’t like the preview don’t run it. I doctored up this photo and I think I could run it at 12 inch wide.

Re: photo carv problem
what did you do to doctor the picture? I does look a lot better, if I make it larger would it improve? I am having trouble getting my arms around photovcarve.
Re: photo carv problem
I used Photoshop Elements smart fix and used Coral Draw to enlarge it I have found a picture needs to be the same size or larger to get a good V carve That is why I will use Coral Draw to enlarge it.

Edit
Photo V Carve is a excellent program but you do need to work with it. You should have a photo editing program to touch up the picture. The woodworking part of it is critical to produce a good PVC.
