material supply

Post by NormanAlbert »

Hi every one: Just some ideas on acquiring corian or plexiglas. A sign shop I visited to show what can be done with lithophanes netted me a rather large peice of white translucent plexi and an inthusiastic reception of the pictures I showed them. A cabinet shop netted me some 1/2 inch corian for free, I'll be making them a gift to hopefully get more. About the corian, I split the 1/2 inch sheet in half with my table saw and cut the remaining middle with the band saw, get twice the material that way. The rough side is then the working surface as it will be milled anyways. I have found that RM 2 sided tape does a good job of holding the material in place while working it. A thin flat blade screw driver easily pops it off when done. A stained glass store is making sun catchers with a lithophane center I gave them to help drum up business for both of us. Norm
