Can I make a jigsaw puzzle from PhotoVCarve pic?

Post by kristenanne77 »

I am trying to figure out a way to make jigsaw puzzles out of a photovcarve pic where
the pieces meet cleanly and none of the picture is missing.....
I currently use PhotoVCarve and VCarve desktop.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
K

Do to the radius of your bits I would suggest using two or even three pictures. Import your pic and create the vectors for your puzzle. Cut all the apposing pieces from one pic then cut the other and so on and so on.

If you don't have vacuum table that could be a problem as well. It would take a lot of double sided adhesive. I don't have a link but you can find sheet products for double sided adhesive.

You could create vectors to give the shape of the pieces you want & then profile cut on the line but you will obviously have gaps the size of the bit you are cutting with so isn't ever going to give you a very tight fit between pieces. A laser might be a better tool for this type of work rather than a router.

just to eliminate confusion. U would cut on the outside of each piece and use an offset for the toolpath. To make up for the bit radius U will need to use several pictures.

K,
I could be looking at this project all wrong, but that's never stopped me before...
How about cutting and fitting all blank puzzle pieces first, then assemble the pieces, attach them to a spoil board, or vacuum table, then do the engraving on the assembled blank puzzle.

Hi...I having been using a scroll saw the last few years making many projects including picture jigsaws, I suggest using photo vcarve to make your picture and getting a scroll saw puzzle pattern and a blade made for jigsaws and cut out your photo. The pieces will fit very good. As someone else said, the dimension of your router bit will cause too much of a gap to use it as a jigsaw puzzle. Hope this helps.
