Marilyn engraved in Rowmark Laminate

Post by Tony Mac »

Brian engraved this photograph of Marilyn into a Micro laminate from Rowmark, for the ISA show.

Important note

Becasue the top surface colour is darker (blue) than the machined grooves (white), the option
to Invert light / dark areas had to be switched on before calculating the toolpath.

Tony,
John and I displayed this piece at the show and I have to say was the best PVC cut I have seen yet. The photo doesn't do this justice. The actual shadow graduations are displayed in this piece. I am very interested in the cutting parameters.
Bit size /stepover etc. set up for this piece. I have plenty of Rowmark material and would like to do engravings of this caliber.

P.S. the lithophane of this Marilyn was also a heartstopper.

Hi Bill,

As you say tis is a stunning example from PhotoVCarve.

The 2 key factors involved in machning this sample were,
  • Totally flat machine table and material
    Very sharp and pointed cutter
Also remember that this example requires the Invert light / dark areas
option to be switched on because the top surface is darker than the engraved
grooves which are white.

The file below will give you an idea of the Cutting parameters used.

Hope this helps and look forward to seeing the results of your work.

Tony
