I guess I should have started with learning to pay attention material size as I didn't 'remember correctly' and didn't verify so I drew off the page!!
I cut at 100 ipm with a 1/32 tapered BN, I think I need to slow it down a little for better detail and less machining lines. I don't think my Z axis is quite up to par at that speed..
It's a start, hopefully a little fine tuning and I can improve on it!

Doubt if speed is a factor, with lots of Z movement and machine will pretty much run at 1 speed.
Try less line spacing, 12% or less, down to 8%. Cut time increases, so does detail.

Thanks, I'll try that first. That was either 10 or 12% so I'll see what 8% does for me.

Hmm, should not be making lines like that at 10% with a 1/32 bit.
Settings correct in tool settings ? Could try a 45 angle, couldn't hurt.

Re: Learning Lithophane
I typically use a 3/64" bit at 8% stepover, 16k rpm, 55 to 60 ipm. It takes awhile but worth the wait. Slower speed is necessary when using smaller bits. When cutting at a 135 degree angle a roughing cut is seldom necessary which compensates for some of the slower speed.

Thanks very much for the tips and info!
This one was at 135 degree and I'm going to double check the tool settings. I'm looking forward to cutting at 8% and 60 ipm to see how that does.
