Job offer

Post by Roy Esslinger »

Hello fellow CNC folks. I purchased the vectric software and built my own CNC 48x48 router table. I have been learning a lot and all of a sudden someone asked me if I could do several logo's for him on wood. I am all excited about making a little money to pay for my software and need your help. The customer sent me a file in a JPEG format and I can open it u in my pictures but I don't have any idea how to get it into my Vcarve program to try to cut it out. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanking you all in advance Roy

Start with the tutorials here: support.vectric.com/training-material/photovcarve

You may want to watch them them once, and then watch again while following along using the software. After that you can work with the photos the customer supplied. Expect there to be some trial and error.

I'm assuming you are using the the latest version of V-carve Pro, 7.X.

At the top of the icon list you'll see to folders. Click on the one to import a bit map for drawing vectors and locate your clients file. Import it into you job and you can create the vectors from there. Hope this helps.

If you're using VCarve tutorial C05 on this page - http://support.vectric.com/tut-vcp-2d-core - covers creating vectors from a picture and would apply to logos.

It's much better to learn to manually trace rather than using automatic conversions when possible.

I do it in three steps in VCarve Pro.
1. Import bitmap for tracing.
2. Trace bitmap-fit vectors to selected bitmap.
3. Fit curves to selected vectors. (This step greatly reduces the number of nodes you have to work with.)
Import bitmap.jpg

Here's a tip that has saved me lots of time over the years.

Always find out if the customer has their artwork in vector format already. If they do, it can save many hours of work depending on how detailed their artwork is.
