What have you all found to be the best material for making lithographs. I have tried a few in 1/4" HDPE plastic, and they are ok, but not great. Is 1/8" material better? I live in the USA, so where do you buy from? www.usplastics.com? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Re: Best material for lithographs?
Hi Mike,
If you mean lithophanes, then I make mine out of Corian, a solid surface material. I get most of mine off E-Bay, but local cabinet/countertop shops may have off-falls that you can get cheap or free. I usually make mine out of 1/4" material, but you can always surface it to whatever thickness you like. Biggest difference in quality comes from a high resolution image, setting up the component height and minimum thickness for proper translucency, and I usually finish mine with a 1/16" ball nose bit.
I'll try to find a couple of tutorials other have done that outline the procedure very well.
Oops - just noticed this is in the PhotoVCarve section. I use Aspire, but THIS thread might be a good start for you to check out.
