I need some help. I have watched all of the tutorials and set PVC to the settings in the example file of the boy & girl and it did not work like it shows. SO I tried another picture that a customer wants me to do for her, with the same results. I have attache screen shots and the outcome. can some please tell what I am doing wrong. I have attached file showing the setting.
I have a ShopSabre 4896 w/ 3HP Spindle
I use Maple.
Thanks in advance for the help!

The carving looks good. did you add a paint to it to fill the grooves it created? Then you would need to lightly sand it till the picture pops out.

I will try that tonight thanks for the tip.
Also on the John Way photo where the darker spots are it cuts most of them out. so is my spacing to close?

I would say to put a couple of coats of clearcoat on before the color. That way, it will stop the color from bleeding through the wood. The coloring is the toughest part. As far as the spacing goes could you post a screen shot of your settings? That would help.

The main problem is that you are watching a tutorial for carving in BRASS and you're using wood. The settings for brass are not going to work for wood. The second problem is that it looks your carving is maybe 3"x3" based on a screw head being in one photo. That is usually not going to work in wood, v-carving works best if it is 8x10" minimum and the larger the better. I would suggest watching the videos on the Tower of London and James Dean and notice how much different the settings are. Vectric also gives some tips for working in different material in this link:

If you do some searching through the forum, you'll find even better instructions and tips. V-carving in wood with PVC is in my opinion the toughest task to get really good output, while lithophanes are a piece of cake in comparison.
