Classifying a Router Bit in PVC's Database

Post by TimSchubach »

Hi - I bought a Whiteside ( http://www.whitesiderouterbits.com ) router bit with my Shark CNC HD Mako a few weeks ago. It is part number SC50 and is referred to on Whiteside's website as a "carving liner", but was sold as a "detail" bit. I don't see anything like it in the bit selections, but I don't know how to classify this particular bit - assuming it is really meant for CNC work. It looks like a V-bit, but there are no specs on it other than the cutting diameter and length. There is no reference I've found to the cutting angle.

On the assumption that it is meant for CNC work, is this the kind of bit I would want to use for a final pass on a lithograph? I have a 1/8" ball nose bit that I was intending to use for the rough cut. According to the tutorials I've seen, it is suggested that you use a 0.04" ball nose cutter for the final pass. Where would you find a cutter that small? I cannot find one anywhere.

I would appreciate any help in how to add this bit to the default list, verifying that it can be used for a final pass on a lithograph, and whether I need to look for a 0.04" ball nose cutter. Many thanks.

Tim

You'd input the Whiteside SC50 bit as a V-bit. It's 11-20 degree's depending on where you look, and 5/8" long. It's basically for engraving and has pretty good feedback for performance. You can design something up calling it 20 degree's, cut it and take a look to start.

Here's a reference post on the shark forum calling it 20 degree's
