Suppliers of CORIAN in the UK

Post by Alan Male »

Hi all,
I've done a quick search of these forum pages but I can't find this question.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a UK supplier of CORIAN suitable for use with PhotoVCarve?

Best regards - Alan

If you want proper corian you'll have a hard job as they only like to supply directly to the trade. There are numerous people on eBay selling offcuts though. Some people say you can get it by going to a local kitchen fitter and buying some but in my experience they know how hard it is to get and charge the earth for it.

If you're happy to use a corian like material then there is much more choice. I use Apollo Magna 6mm material (used for splashbacks). Don't get anything thicker than that as it comes bonded to MDF at worktop thickness's. Looks exactly like corian and machines in the same way.

Corian is just a brand name. any type of plastic, even those plastic cutting boards will work for lithos.

Alan,

You can use any white or off white solid surface plastic for doing Lithophanes. If you are looking for Corian contact me via PM and I will see what can be done. I have access to it and can tell you from personal experience that 1212 Acrylic and the different grades of Corian do have different end effects on the Lithophanes you would want to be producing. Depending on what you are doing, they can be wanted or unwanted. True SS (solid surface) material mills much better then any other plastic I have worked with (HDPE, Acrylic [cast & extruded], ABS, Polyporp', and a few more). Milling a solid surface though your really really need dust extraction though.

Send me a PM and I will get you my phone number.
