Here are a couple of pictures cut in Aluminium (6082)
Both plates are 90 x 90 x 3mm and were cut using a 60Deg Inc bit at 0.3mm max depth.
Matt black paint was used to bring out the detail.

After machining, Scotchbright was gently rubbed along the cut lines to remove the small burrs left by the cutter then washed and dried before applying the matt spray paint. Once dry I used fine emery cloth to remove the paint and apply a grained finish vertically, followed by fine Scotchbright (maroon) to finish.
Actually this was the second attempt, I first used black felt tip pen which was not a great success. I found that the sides of the small V shaped cuts were not fully covered which detracted from the overall effect.

Cutter used;What type/brand of vbit are you using. Do you have a link to an online source?
Ø3mm x 60Deg Inclusive. Single flute carbide. 0.2mm Tip.
When I cut these I only had one engraving cutter to choose from! I bought it a few years ago from a company called Mastergrave here in England.

Thats right, no power tools used for finishing. The plates are only 90mm square and were unmarked before starting so they only took 3 or 4 minutes each to finish max.Sounds like it was all hand finishing(no power tools)
