I came to a similar conclusion after spending time with the text files that were output and trying to come up with a way to display them in a useful way to the operator.
I've updated my VCarve Pro's ShopBot post processor to pass the tool name and then modified my ShopBot controller Manual Tool Change code to display it in the Tool Change dialog box (was limited to just tool number previously).
Life is simpler now. Thanks for the utility of Tool_Renumber and the reminder to focus on what I was trying to solve in the first place.

Re: Tool_Renumber Gadget to renumber tools
I fat-fingered a 0 for spindle speed and broke a bit. While I normally try check everything, this one slipped through. So now the popup dialog shows the minimum rpm of all the tools, and the tool that uses it. Whether the tools have been renumbered or not. If you see a minimum rpm of 1600, you may want to check your tools in your toolpaths.

Re: Tool_Renumber Gadget to renumber tools
Will this gadget work with Version 10?
Re: Tool_Renumber Gadget to renumber tools
Yes. I used it today.
Re: Tool_Renumber Gadget to renumber tools
This is a handy tool. Just found it. Thanks, works great and hassle free.
Just 1 question.
Is there an option so I can print the pop up? or copy txt to wordpad and than print?
As my working place for aspire is different than when I use the CNC. So I now have to write down manually toolnumbers and what tools they actually are.
Having 5 or more tools sometimes in a files, I really cant memorise them all.

Some post processor files can be written to put the tool name and data into your cutting file. Maybe tweak your post processor code?

Hi Thanks, I just found I had an older version installed. I ran the last one and it saves a .TXT files when you check the box.
I run and Shapeoko pro and carbide motion doesnt show the toolname, only the toolnumber...
thanks anyway.

I was going to mention the text file. As Charlie mentioned, I suspect that you should be able to modify the post processor to at least display the actual tool in a comment before the T command.
