New Fireplace mantel

Post by dmthomson »

Just finished and installed this for a customer. Made from red oak with honey pecan stain and 4 coats of semi-gloss lacquer. 3D carving is from the VectorArts3D deer mantel product. I used gel stains to color and bring depth to the carving. The first picture is what they had on the wall before the new mantel was installed.

Happy Customer! :D

Even the horses look happier sitting up there.

You will notice now that the mantel and fireplace are the show peices of the room now, and they had to readjust the whole room to allow for the "wow" affect of the mantel.

They may have to redo the whole house!!

I bet you get some more business.

Looks great.

Don, terrific job on the mantel, congratulations! Even better that the customer is happy with it... Would it be OK to use the before and after pictures on my next Vector Art 3D newsletter? I think this is a great example of the difference that can be made in a room. Let me know if that would be OK?

Thanks,
James

Looks Fantastic, that is definitely a great improvement from the stock mantel that came in the house. I like it allot and agree will be a conversational piece.

Great Job Don,
I can really appreciate the way you changed the fireplace from not so much to "over the top"....the carving changes the attention from the fireplace itself to the mantle...which is to say that most people would love for their woodwork to standout rather than the woodbox hole in the wall.

My brother and I are hitting the business side of the house with me doing the carving and him doing the mantle work in another side business....I am sort of looking at doing exaclty what you did to this mantle....I really look forward to making a few homeowners smile just like you clients did for this one.....again great job. I look forward to talking to you one day about the leassons learned in your business.

That is a fantastic carving Don.

Can I ask what bit you used? I am using a Shark so I guess my maximun carving could only be 24X24 (unless I can get good enough to seperate .crv files).
