Wow! They are all great! That Cherry Point had to take forever... lol. But it is beautiful!

So I have to share my sad story. In our central NC county we have trash bin to drop off our trash which is compacted and trucked to Virginia land fill. The one I visit several times a week had this elderly man working there who was very friendly and always talked to me like we been friends for years. I do vinyl stickers for my truck bumper and he asked me to make him a USMC one since he is an old marine vet. I did and he loved it. Then I showed him wood carvings I can do and he asked me to make him a simple USMC plaque for his home wall. I made the attached and kept stopping at the trash place to give this to him before Christmas as a friendly gift. It seemed every time I visited he wasn't there. Finally I asked one of the other workers when he planned to be at work... and they told me that he had a massive heart attack and had to operated on with a implant and he probably wouldn't be back at work. So sad and I felt so bad. All I have is his name. My wife believes we can find him based on that, but thought I'd share this. The plaque still sits in my truck wrapped in Christmas paper... :(

The plaque was made from simple pine and with a early american dark stain. And then I did an infill with red epoxy. It was my very first epoxy project and it turned out pretty good, but I am not a big fan of working with epoxy in tight spaces...

Oh... and I forgot to add that it was laced with a fine coat of clear epoxy for the shiny finish.

That is a beautiful plaque and so kind of you to make for this Vet. I am sorry to hear that he had a massive heart attack, I hope he recovers well. I would suggest that you find out where the "office" is for the workers and see if they can help you track him down. Your other option would be to check with local hospitals to see if he is a patient, as he will probably be there for a while but with the HIPA laws in place, it may be difficult to track him down that way as they will probably not confirm he is there if you are not family. It would make a great human interest story so you might be able to get a local tv station or newspaper to help you in tracking him down.
