How did you hold the model at the end of the cut? A manually removed onion skin?

For those who hesitate spending more bucks to buy a sturdy machine versus a light one, have a look at Gary's video.

A cheap machine can't simply achieve this quality level and a lot of issues I've seen on this forum can be avoided with a serious CNC like this one.

You're right on. Material was .9" I took two .4" passes and left a .1" onionskin. A lot of users overlook the importance of good hold down when trying to obtain a good finish. The rigidity of the machine and power of the servos don't hurt either!

About 2.5 years ago I started designing a cnc router build. After buying a few parts, I decided it was going to take more time than I wanted to spend on the project. I sold all of the parts I had accumulated and ordered a CNC Router Parts 4824 Pro. Shortly after I started assembly CNCRP came out with their upgraded Pro that had linear rails. I made a call to them and found they would supply the linear rail conversion to recent buyers at a reduced price, which I ordered. I'm glad I made the decision to purchase their kit; it was very easy to assemble and get into production. I use it for my own hobby work.

Some nice looking machines in here. Mine is a CNCRP Pro4824.

Here is a video of my brother and I putting our open build OX cnc machine together. This video shows some of the issues we had when we got all the parts. We got the machine from Hobby-Fab, which I believe in the past couple weeks has went under since their website no longer works.
My machine is 1500mm x 1500mm. I made it on a fold up work bench, since my wife would probably be angry if she couldn't park her car in the garage anymore. lol
So far everything works great. I had to tweak a few things here and there. Like the step off from the limit switch for the x axis to allow it to home without throwing alarms and some other minor things.
The power box for the machine uses a raspberry pi with a built in bcnc program to control the machine using gcode.

First project with Diamond Drag Bit I'm amazed at this CNCEST accuracy The Dragons eye pupal is 1mm in diameter.
I used Vectric Vcarve Desktop very nice program easy to learn.
The drag bit was found on ebay very good bit! reasonable price.

Same machine as what I have. Although a lot of the Chinese machines get a pretty bad rap, the CNCEST seems to be pretty good. Since you have the same machine, do you have power surge/purge issues, especially during storms? I run a ground from both the controller and the carrier of the machine directly to an outside ground. That helped a lot, but still get surges/purges, which could effect my mach3 settings when running a job.
