Trade show sign

Post by dpowli »

This sign was displayed at our customer's booth last weekend at the Home show in Novi, Michigan. Top is maple with inlace letters. Bottom is cherry with maple inlay for the ship.

Thanks. Sign is about 44" tall x 32 wide. Total machine time was about 5 hours with 3 hours of that being the texture for the oceans using an 1/8" ballnose.

5 hours machine time....but how long did it take to make....total? VERY NICE. :)

Are the top pieces projecting into the base to floor level, or how are they held in?
How thick is the top piece?
What does the entire unit weigh?
What did you finish it with, I like the nice sheen on the top piece, it looks like just blonde shellac?
The cherry on the bottom looks great, is it solid or laminate?
Joining of the boards for the top....did you use biscuits, dowels....?

Very nice indeed. :)

Total time for project about 30 hours. The top piece is removable as it sets in a 4" deep pocket in the base. The top maple piece is 1" thick. Entire unit is appoximatly 40 lbs. Finish is clear satin laquer. Cherry and maple are solid wood. All of our board glue-ups are done without any joinery - - it is not necessary, adds no strength to joint!
We use a a polyurethane glue which comes in "caulk" tubes for all our gluing.

Thanks for your comment. Have a good one.
