Of the many projects I would love to do, one of them is a HUGE version of a clock like this. I am talking ten feet tall or more. I have the ability to make the gears and the frame, etc. If I can find the plans for the right clock, I will make that a summer project.

Someone in a thread on Router Forums suggested that if it is a pendulum operated clock, increasing the size would affect the timing of the swinging pendulum and the clock would not be able to keep the correct time. So they said the clock would need to be driven by an electric motor.

I am not an engineer and I don't play one on TV, so I don't know about how increasing the size of a pendulum would slow it down. I would think that scaling a clock should not change its characteristics. The swing would be longer, but the weight would be heavier, and I *think* the clock would operate the same. Am I wrong?

Not the OP however, go to Lisaboyer.com and click on Woodworking Plans and you will find what you are looking for.
Clayton Boyer produces what I consider the best CAD plans. I have made several of his projects and they all turned out great.
You can either purchase a rolled set of plans or the electronic version which are easily converted to Vectric.

You won't be disappointed,

It is increasing the length of a pendulum that slows it down. The period (time) of one swing is proportional to the square root of the length. So a pendulum that is 5 times as long will take 2.236 times as long to make a swing. One solution would be to change the gearing accordingly.

Thanks. I can clearly see that clock making is a fine art I will never master. This is why I would build an electric clock, and rely on the gears and linkages to maintain the correct time, according to a reliable electric motor RPM.
