Owl Gate

Post by Papa_Paul »

Needed to build a new gate and put up some new fencing as preparation for the arrival of a new cocker spaniel puppy. I often hear owls on the woodland that surrounds the football pitch that is in the old limestone pit behind my house, so that the addition of a vcarve owl on the gate would be appropriate.

Love owls. We have quite a few that help keep the pest population in control. Was at our oldest daughters house this past Mother's Day Sunday and there were 2 in the live oak trees in her front yard. We spotted them with the binoculars and they would just look at us. We have one of those nest cams that you can look at (http://landingsbirdcam.com/) and it had owls in it one years. Currently has 3 osprey chicks with mom and dad on the nest. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The wood is sapele and the owl was carved with the texture tool at different angles, depth of cuts and texturing parameters. The design is from several different modified bitmaps images. I did try some yellow poly carbonate for the eyes and the moon, but it was too much so used some frosted poly that I had scavenged from the cover of a fiber optic patch panel that was being replaced.

Again thanks for the comments,
Paul
