FREE Labs Project: Heart Shaped Box

Postby RebeccaJ » Wed Jan 16, 2019 3:06 pm

Hey All,

This month I have created a pretty simple Heart Shaped Box for you to download from your V&Co account: https://release.vectric.com/heart-shaped-box/

This is a bit of a seasonal project with Valentines around the corner, but could work for anytime really, anniversaries, mothers day and gifting in general :)

The box is formed of two parts, a lid and a base. The lid has a funky texture pattern that has been created simply with a profile toolpath and a large VBit. The base of the box consists of a simple pocket toolpath where I have engraved some text inside of the box! The box is a two sided project, allowing for extra engraving on the bottom of the base, as well as the functionality of a pocket pass on the underside of the lid to allow for the lid to slot into the base to close the whole part up.

I hope you enjoy this project!
Happy Making!
Beki

This was presented last night before a "Yoga for Partners" session. It was well received by my sweetie.

1.5" Ash left over from another project, a single layer of Livos Natural Oil finish. Minimal manual sanding.

Well here is my take on Beki's free project Heart shaped box.
My wife and I recently lost one of our fur babies to cancer. So I had bought the bracelet for my wife for Valentines. Then this free project came out. It was perfect for my needs.
Thank you so much for this one.

Top & Bottom of the box is Redwood.
The center section is Cherry.
All cut with 1/4 BN endmill. 60 degree V-Bit for text and chamfer.
Finish is simply 4 coats of rattle can poly with a light sand between coats.

It was very well received and is much loved by my wife.
Thanks again for the free project and all that you all do at Vectric & Design & Make for our community.

Thank you Michael. Got one of your projects pulled out of the Rountuit file. Variation of the paradise box that will become a memorial box for my father in law. All hickory construction with text and custom carvings inside and out.

I’m looking forward to seeing the memorial box. I’ve not worked with Hickory myself, but a fellow CNC carver gifted me a desktop nameplate made from Hickory. Beautiful wood.
