Just fooled around with the eyes today with the pen I use when hand signing work(Black Pilot Precise V5 extra fine) as it holds up to to my oil/wax finish very well for years.
Looks better:)

WILL drop D-Limonene from my first coat blend when working Black Walnut sap/heartwood though. It bleeds a little heartwood color into the sapwood, and I like to keep the contrast.
NOT bad on this little guy, as it's SUPPOSED to be a dead tree:)

I just did concept on this computer, and then when I had it jigged up I took actual measurements, added the 2 new bits in database, and winged it once I cleared enough wood to know what my actual height would be.
All on the control computer in shop....I'll thumbdrive it tomorrow and let you know the actual numbers I dialed in tomorrow probably so I can take screenshots on this computer.

Here you go Mark,
ALL cuts were very conservative as only my third experience using the bits, and the first 2 woods were totally different(River Red Gum and 5A Big Leaf Maple) than this PAD Walnut branch.
Also branches are "Torsion Wood" and can move significantly more than trunk wood. I was also cutting against the grain on both which was the weakest direction of clamping and didn't want branch "rolling" even the slightest bit, as I lost a Walrus model branch once as wood shifted/lifted and a 30degree engraving bit got pulled into wood almost .5" and ruined it.(MAY recut using these longer TBNs after recessing the Walrus in the branch knot)

I stopped the toolpath manually when the depth ring got within a pass of the depthring as model is 1.5" tall(notice the pockets near the Owl's head in the roughing pic). So finish toolpath was cutting about .6" of material at the Owl's head, and can't tell any difference in finish.
About 10 minutes into the finishing toolpath, I realized I could have cut at (IPS) 1.5,1.5,16K, BUT didn't want to recalc a Max resolution for the .25mmR bit, so manually moved X,Y speed to 1.5IPS to speed up at least the flatter areas. Remember..I have a welded frame, relatively tight machine....your machine will be different possibly. Should at least give you a baseline for test cuts.
Also if ordering the 3" TBNs...remember to write down the side angle for each bit.

"Owl" only needs it's 6'th coat....Looking good and will add pic before wrapping him up for my Step-Mom:)

MY "Tree" guy was just her 4 hours ago, and I snagged a couple good pieces lengths of 4-5" diameter paper birch....Kinda thinking branches now

So, what is it? I guess a red squirrel of some kind? The grey ones here don't have such big ears.

DID buy it because it reminded me of a little guy that kept me company for 3 hours during a Dawn at South side of Grand Canyon where 2" of snow had fallen that night....never really forgot him, as so different from our Red Squirrels here. Looking for a handout no doubt, and did everything except say please:)

I think Dan is correct after searching a very little....Kinda looks like the "Ural" sub-species which would make sense for 27Newstyle....I forgot he's a small shop and probably won't get the file till VERY early Monday morning. I'll be interested how it scales:)

Been lurking here for about 6 months and have seen such amazing work that I can only hope to aspire to someday. BUT...this piece is so organic in design and natural in execution that I just absolutely love it!

That'll be $1.95 for my expert advice. Hah. Just a lucky guess since the model is done across the pond and the ears sort of gave it away. Although, it could be something else in disguise like one of those infamous Maine black flies. Regardless, we'll be happy to see you carve it.
