Fancy That Box

Post by llwood »

This is Michael Tyler's Fancy That Box design in Ambrosia Maple. The natural appearance of the wood is so stunning that we thought doing the vcarve on the top would lessen the impact, so we chose to go without it.

A nice piece of wood indeed. One of the problems I have with wood having so much character is in finding a carving that complements it. Sometimes it is best to just let God's handiwork take the entire stage.

I have a bunch of ambrosia maple, which needs planning, and am curious as to what finish you will use on yours. I might try some tung and Danish oils on some scrap pieces. Thank you for sharing.

Oh Wow, that Ambrosia Maple looks gorgeous! I think if I made that I'd think the same as you in that I would leave it as is! Beautiful, I wonder if I can get hold of some over here? Thanks for sharing!

Awesome.

I agree, some woods are better left alone. The natural beauty of the wood should not be ruined by our handiwork.

I think a nice drying oil would do it justice. One of my personal favorites is Bush Oil.
