Had a good week...

Post by ricphoto »

Went heads down last week to get some things done for the kids/grandkids...

They've been after me to show them some of the things I been doing on the new CNC the last month so I spent a few days making things for them...

With them in Texas and us up in the PacNW all they've been getting is photos so decided each would get a carving suited to their personality.

For my son who plays in his new shop a lot it was a cool steampunk design that looked a bit industrial...cut in walnut this one proved to be a challenge in a few ways...biggest thing was finding a bit small enough yet strong enough to get inside the gears for deeper clean cuts on the background piping...finished with watco natural then 4 coats of a satin spray lacquer...

For my daughter-in-law whose an artist really into day of the dead related stuff it was a "Sugar Skull"...cut from a clear beech full 2x10 this was a nice clean straightforward cut that I left unfinished so she could paint it as she liked...

same with the grandson and grand daughter...beech 2x10 with a "Yoda" for him and a cute Dragon for her...

I love them all! I have a Steampunk design waiting in the wings, so that one caught my eye in particular!

Looks Good!, do like the steam punk design. What sort of machining time did they take?.

Wow, those are just awesome, especially the steampunk one. I'm pretty new to CNC so I'm still getting a feel for feeds & speeds, tooling, etc. If you have time, I'm really interested in more details about these projects such as what machine you're using, feeds & speeds, and tooling. Even if you'd rather not, this is great work!

I LOVE the Master Yoda panel. That design is expensive but I may have to spring for it. Thanks Gene

I'm pretty new to CNC too with only 2 months in now but I've made enough mistakes that I'd be happy to share and "talk shop"...give me a ping at ricatricphotodotcom
