Help needed.

Post by woody53 »

I am going to try and do some edge-lit acrylic and could use some help. Searched on here and saw a lot but my old brain still needs more. Xxray and Dwayne have done some awesome edge-lits and that's what I want to do. Thanks for the help.

you are making LED acrylics the same way I do. Nothing wrong but not enough.
Square or rectangular. The ones that stand out and get the wow factor are the
ones that are outside the box. So I will be thinking about the next one I do and
see if I can get outside the box. Things like the lighting frame work , the shape
of the acrylic , use of colors , multi color and maybe incorporating no acrylic
items into the mix. Many of the really talented uses on this forum and others
are great re-purposes of many found objects and other things. So what am I
saying look at your next project and think outside the box. My problem is I am
not artistic and I know it. So I re-purpose ideas that others think of. I am a borrower
I saw a whisky bottle display that got me to thinking of a display for a bottle of Jameson
I have the label says Donald James Murphy and it is 12 year old after seeing the one in
the post I got an idea hope to start on it soon. Good luck and have fun

You're right Don. This is my first attempt and like I said I need to fine tune the tool-path and bit settings, but it looks like a edgelit anyway. Will be thinking outside and I saw yours you were talking about.

I did forget to mention that your led came out nice. Looks like you may have not decided on a base
I try to keep the base simple if I am giving them away . I have not tried anything like the Santa
but who knows ?. AC/DC maybe a lighting bolt theme ?.

Looks good to me, anything specific you need to know ?

They make LED controllers that dance to music, would look cool blasting out some AC/DC and watching the lights bounce to the beat.

The attached is one I knocked out for a buddy last week. New base variation for me.
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Nice, did the same thing a few years back, ended up giving this to a little girl and she was thrilled, still uses it
