spindles
Hi one and all: Finally broke down and got DC spindles to replace the Bosh Colt routers I've been using. The smaller cnc now has a 1.5 KW air cooled spindle with an ER13 collet. It weighs 10 pounds so added a spring counter weight to almost negate that weight. My bigger machine now has a 1.5 KW spindle with a ER16 collet capacity. That weight is 15 pounds so it also has a spring counter balance setup. Both are 220 volts to the Variable Frequency Drives single phase and gives the spindles 3 phase. I have not hooked them up to Mach 3 for auto on and off. They do have soft start and off. The best thing is how quiet they are, how powerful they are, the cutters can take a bigger bit and faster feed without loading the spindle down. And yes, the cutting action is nosier. Norm

Re: spindles
Why would the cutting action be noisier Norm? Less other noise to hide it?

Re: spindles
Hi Guys: Yeh: The spindles are so relatively quiet and I can run at a greater rpm and feed speed the cutter noise isn't masked by anything. Norm
