Salad Bowl. Done with 2-sided machining, the curves on both the top and bottom are cut with the molding toolpath.
The tricky part about this project is that some of the toolpaths are almost 4 inches deep. I had to make sure they were cut in such a way that all the material near these deep cuts was wasted away first because otherwise it was in danger of hitting the collet or the spindle. For example, if the drive rail for the molding toolpath is a closed shape, it always cuts on the outside, so sometimes we cut the closed shape into two open shapes to the toolpath can be cut on the inside. This would not have worked for this because then one toolpath would have been very deep next to an area not yet cut and so the spindle would have hit the uncut material.
We cut the top first with one molding toolpath so all the excess material was cut away first. Then we flipped it over and cut the corners off before cutting the bottom.

Is that one lump of wood or has it been made from strips glued together ?

Re: Salad Bowl
Martin, it was made with strips of cherry glued together, finished with mineral oil.martin54 wrote:Very nice as usual from you, what sort of finish have you used ??
