Magnetic Positioner

Post by Bob Jr »

About 10 years ago I purchased some magnetic cabinet latches because they were on sale, and looked like they could come in useful someday. That day finally came…There are many ways to position stock on a cast iron surface. I made this small stop that is dedicated just for that purpose. Two of the cabinet latches were used for this stop. The magnetic latches (Magswitch 8110007) appear to be available yet. They just cost a lot more now. I have attached the crv file if anyone is interested.

Bob,

That's a clever idea, thanks for sharing. Do you know how these compare to some of the feather boards you can buy with rare earth magnets? I used one once and you essentially had to hit it with a hammer to move it with the magnet engaged.

What sorts of cuts are you making that you use this as a stop for?

Charlie,
It only has about 24 lb. holding power. That's enough to position a board for cutting thin strips, and placing a workpiece in the correct position before cutting to length.
I also use it on the router table to position a piece when using the miter slide.
Etc.
