Work in progress photos. Project is 10x10x0.5 birch using a 60 degree V bit with and end mill for area clearance and profile cutout. 90 to 120 IPM @ 14K. About 90 minutes total machine time.

That is a beautiful plaque! I like the way the finish adds contrast to the detail too.

Started finishing with a blond shellac in a 2 lb cut. I used to use lacquer but since I started French Polishing guitars I prefer the simplicity and safety of shellac.

Randall,
Is it just the pics, or did each subsequent coat make that heartwood(I liked the placement) more homogeneous?
Was glazing done to get the uniformity?
They're going to LOVE it:)

The glazing was to add contract to the carved areas
Birch is fairly uniform and the blond shellac tends to make it even more uniform.
