Excellent,
Let me say your panel is excellent Plus. Not only is your choice of wood very good, the routing technique is also top drawer. However the layout and design is mature and beautiful to look at.
Wish we were closer so I could see more of your work.

Re: Sign for Garage/Shop
Thanks all for the very gracious comments!
Knowing the caliber of work that gets displayed on this forum, I'm very thankful that my work would get positive reaction .
I apologize for not posting any details as I appreciate it when others do. So, here are a few bits of info that hopefully might be helpful for others.
The original design concept came from a photo of a sundial by some talented artisan(s) in England. - Took the photo into Flexi and did the design and layout there and then exported as a dxf, into V-Carve Pro, onto Mach3 and then carved on a Joe's 4x4 R&P Hybrid.
- As Joe Crumley mentioned, the blank is 2x6 redwood (decking from Lowes), edged and glued with dowels.
- Two bits were used: CMT 60 v-bit and an MLCS 1/4" down spiral. Pretty much 80-100 ipm's @ .1" per pass.
- The changeable hour plates are 3/16" lexan. Carved on back side with same bits plus a 1/8" endmill for clear out. Don't recall the speeds and feeds but they were less & slower. Painted numbers & markings w/Oneshot gold.
- Sealed with Zinsser Seal Coat. Did various turpentine & tubed oil paint washes. Gilded the lettering. Coated with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane.
Note that this is how I did it and not necessarily the correct way .
Thanks again,
Gale

Thanks T.R.
Sadly, I still haven't hung this due to inclement weather . I did manage to get the gable re-painted though, finally .

Re: Sign for Garage/Shop
Sorry 'bout resurrecting this post but wanted to share.
This had no maintenance for the last 2 years and really went to heck. I finally took it down a couple weeks ago with the intention of putting it in the scrap pile. Well, I got to dinkin' around with it scraping, wire brushing and sanding, figured what the heck, decided to save it if I could. The gold leaf went bye bye about a year ago and the finish was near all gone. I should have taken a picture of its pitiful state but didn't. I put a frame work on the back side to stabilize it so as to re-carve the ID badge and to make it easier to hang with the included french cleat. Hoping to get a few more years enjoyment out of it. You can be sure I'll be re-sealing it every time I change the hours for DST change. Anyways, it's ready to re-hang.
