"Old Glory" - End Grain American Flag

Hi Folks - There wasn't a ton of CNC work here but what there was, I can't imagine doing without Vcarve. This project was heavily influenced by MTMWood's gorgeous cutting boards (check him out on youtube).

You did a beautiful job on that. I can't imagine anyone is going to actually use it for cutting. Something to be very proud of.

Thanks Mike! I used Purpleheart, Padauk, and hard maple. I've never used Padauk before and I didn't realize how red it was. I actually put a satin finish on (because that's what I had on hand), but I have a feeling if I did a gloss the red color would have popped a lot more.

If you have a UV wax, I might throw a coat on to prevent/slow Padauk from reaching it's final dark reddish color.
Still searching for a permanent way to keep that wonderful salmon color

That's for the tip. I haven't tried UV wax before but that seems like a great idea.

Should have researched better as it seems my Harris Tools "UV Defender" isn't made anymore
Besides, it was a turp base not good for food surface and I just evaped the turp and added it to my beeswax blend.
Oopsy.
Yep, even smaller as I made kayaks/canoes across the river in Orrington back in the day:)
Swing by next time you're in southern Maine(Northern Mass as most people up North say:)
UV wax only lasts/protects Padauk for about 3-4 months before a recoat is needed in full sun anyways in my tests.
Still a nice color, but just not that in your face color of fresh cut.

What size is the cutting board. Very nice work. I hope to be making a cutting board very soon.

Hi "Makingtoothpicks" - The flag is about 18.5" by 9.5" x 1.5" - I'm thinking of hanging it on the wall because I can't see wanting to put a knife across it....we can manage with the plastic cutting boards I think!

Ol' Glory is something I love cutting. I do many different variations of it.

I just could not imagine disgracing a nation's flag by using it as a cuttingboard. Glad you are hanging it on the wall.
