I'm going to do a project for a friend who's daughter has past at a very early age and she loved butterflies and they would Love this.
I am new at this and would like to purchase the file if available.
also i think that it's pretty cool that its a father and son project keep up the nice work.

Re: Butterfly Box
Thanks for the project. I have the pieces cut but when I assemble the hinge it is longer than the groove. The pieces are .497" thick. Also is there an easy way to get them glued up?
Thanks

Re: Butterfly Box
Curt, I uploaded the files for two different sizes of butterfly box. The larger box has the hinge pieces 0.5" thick and there should be a groove of 5", allowing for 10 pieces, 4 to the base, and 3 to each wing. And if they still don't fit, you could always sand them down a bit....
The smaller box has 3/8" hinge pieces, so make sure you get the right sized hinge pieces for the box you are working.
Also, the smaller box, done later, has a design improvement. The larger box has a groove in the base for the hinge pieces, but most of this groove is empty. In the smaller box, I changed it from a groove to 3 holes, one for each hinge piece that goes to the base. This gives more gluing area and makes it easier to position the pieces in the right place. If you want, I could make this change to the larger box also, but since I like the smaller box better, we haven't been making the larger one any more.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Butterfly Box
llwood - Do you have any suggestions on gluing the hinges to the lids? I have the small one cut and bought some 1/8 Brass from Amazon and am ready to assemble it. I wasn't sure if you added a small pin or not after gluing but afraid that might split the wood. I plan on making 2 large ones also, all 3 will be going to my granddaughters for xmas.
