Here's a smaller version, about 8x5. I also changed the way the hinge pieces attach to the base. The larger version has a slot from one end to the other. Two small pieces of wood, about 2x.25x.25 were used to fill in the groove between the hinge pieces. In this version, I instead cut 3 pockets (with fillets) that the hinge pieces fit into. We haven't cut this version or assembled it yet, so I am not sure how it will work, but I think this will make it easier to glue.
The hinge pieces are smaller also, shrunk from 1/2" to 3/8".

I don't have the latest version of V carve (i have 7.0), however, I believe I can make the box. But can you enlighten me on how you made the hinge? Nice design, my daughter will love it!
