Hi Bob

There are zero problems cutting any of Dales models in medium hardwood even though the 1 1/4 thickness can be a challenge for lighter machines. The massive advantage is that you get a much better finish. Even cheap old cypress pine looks fantastic with a bit of oil on it.

Take care

The first trucks and cars I made were Black Walnut, Cherry, Maple, and Red Oak.
If they are for display they look nicer and are okay but do take a lot more effort to finish than softer woods.
For toys they tend to be a bit heavy.

Dale

Thanks a lot for the info, its been a real learning experience to get to where I am now ( lost in the wilds of Ontario) There are not a lot of people in the general area (that I'm aware of) who I can contact and if it wasn't for this forum it could be a very painful journey!!

People are very kind to share their knowledge and files with new guys like me and it helps to make the transition easier.

Heime likewise thanks for the tips I will put the info into the vacuum tube on my shoulders and start working on some trucks. I hope to copy the cab style that Rod (newagent) showed us and just inlet the windows rather than go all the way through.

Thanks again guys

Bob

Bob, please post your photos when you get the. The sole purpose of the toys it to get people to make things... once started you will have some basic skills and can then modify and/or create your own.

Dale,
Thanks for sharing again. Back when you first posted this I made some for my grandsons and if you remember it prompted me to make the old style CRAGAR wheels. Can I ask where you got the spoke wheels with flat tread? All I've been able to find are the rounded tire spoke wheels?

Sorry for the gap in my reply, but I will be posting more frequently from now on.

Attached is the Kenworth that I'm going finish as a steel hauler, that's pic 1.

Pic 2 is three construction vehicles that I make using a combination of the CNC and table saw, I make them out of local hardwoods and donate them to local organizations that support kids. I am currently working on a complete set (14 toys) for the pediatric unit at our hospital.

Thanks for your kindness in sharing your knowledge as a new guy to this kind of work, its nice to know there helpful folks out there.

By the way are you going to Orlando??

These are the only ones I could find.
The company where I purchased mine is no longer in business [circa ~2008]

I make my own now by using layers... could be cnc or laser
