Finally got some Prismatic Letters done!
Made these 4.5 inch Prismatic letters, from clear pine and faux painted them copper patina. threw in the two faux iron anchors @ .50 inch for a little extra decoration. The only thing I would change next time is the material... Pine was tough to sand the narrow parts ( lost a few and had to glue them back together). Maybe poplar .. or if i can find any signfoam scraps.... Also the copper patina paint looks different depending on the type of light and direction of light.. overall a pretty good learning experience!

bennyb,
Very nice work, the 2 different lighting sources really change the look of pictures #1 and #4 . I like the shiny one best.
Nice frame too!

Thanks Phil, Isn't that the multi woodworking tool, I could neither afford or had room for? It pays to have sense of humor....... Anyway for the people who really don't know what a Shipsmith is :Shipsmith - the person who forges the metal fittings for the ship by hand. Like blacksmith, the shipsmith uses a coal fire and anvil to hammer hot metal into a desired shape.
I have quite a few tools and whaling implements made by Shipsmiths here in the 1800s, so my sign will look good displayed among them.

Thanks Glenn, That shot was using a bright led in a track light, the others were sunlight. looks different every time I look at it. I think I like this one. Pretty low cost too. Just stock pine 1x6 and some pine moulding. All new materials,(I try to use reclaimed wood whenever i can, but Winter is slim pickins)

bennyb,
Thanks for the Shipsmith info. I will add this to my data about wood ships and iron men.

Nice.
I also like the way it changes, depending on the light.

another look for that finish is to put a little sand in the paint. adds age.
just another option.
