Sometimes it's the quick and easy ones......that are the most fun
Took a moment today to diamond drag engrave this "W" in our clocks' pendulum for a nice little extra touch.
Lurkers are welcome! (just funnin' ya, Bill!)
Happy Holidays to all!
Dave

Dave,
What is "diamond drag engrave"?
That really added a nice touch to the clock.

That is really nice looking. I think I would be chicken to try that. I would probably get it off center. You did a really nice job.

Thanks so much for the comments.
Roy, this was copied and pasted from a thread I started awhile ago but I had to update the pages as they've changed now:
Thanks fellas, and sure, I can tell you more about the tool. You'll actually appreciate the frugalness (is that a real word? lol!) on how I cobbled this together.
I use a tap guide (for threading) and quite honestly, the hardened pointed/ground end works great for this as well, as I used that at first with other projects I've done. I wanted to set it up for a diamond tip though, so I designed an adapter to fit inside with a small set screw to hold what are called "phonopoint" diamonds (cheap!), which are really used for dressing precision grinding wheels on a surface grinder (what I do for my "day" job). It works fantastic and they make the guides with such a nice slip fit, and hardened materials, so it's a quality unit. I've done over 130 drag engravings with it and it's still a perfect slip fit.
(I see Enco doesn't allow hotlinking anymore so here are the part numbers:)
website: http://www.use-enco.com
Phono/Single point Diamond: 388-8860
Tapping Guide: 325-5179
Rendering of the diamond point adapter:

COBOB, what I did was just use the point of the cutter to make a circle in a piece of hdpe that the pendulum would sit on, and then held the back mounting flange lightly in a vice , and then locate it that way.
Hope that helps.

Dave,
Thanks for the quick explanation. Very interesting idea. Have to keep that in mind for future ideas.

Fretsman68,
Really really cool. I have to say that I am confused. The 3D Rendering you show is of what? The holder for the diamond tip? Is there anyway you could post a jpg of the unit?
THANKS!

That's actually the modified diamond tip holder that's inside the tapping guide.LonePine wrote:Fretsman68,
