Here is an image of a stained glass project with actual colored glass but with wood frame instead of lead caming. Piece has front and rear halves that are screwed together. Pockets routed on the mating surfaces hold the glass. Both front and back are 2-sided pieces. I included locating holes and dowel pins to align the front to back and while routing second side of each half. I downloaded the "Heart of God" image, determined the depths I needed, and let the router do it's job in two boards glued up from a 1x8 cherry. Front and back are obviously mirror images.
