allowance offset issue

I've been playing around with the dish 3D sign tutorial located here:

http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V8 ... cks_5.html

At about the 40 minute mark when chamfers are being added for the mounting holes and outer profile, I am not able to enter anything into the allowance offset. I'm not quite sure why that is as I've used it on many projects in the past. I've attached a sample file for reference. On my laptop, when this file is opened, the words allowance offset in toolpath tab for a profiled toolpath are greyed out and I can't enter anything. Do I have a setting wrong somewhere? I'm running the latest ShopBot Edition of V8 (8.024).

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Charlie

My apologies for this getting into the gadgets section - I'm sure I was in V-carve general so I'm not sure what happened

It is because of the "V" cutter.

I changed tool to an end mill and the allowance became available.

The allowance is the material left on the side to be cut. Maybe a "V" cutter is not intended to be used in that manner.

I did not look at the tutorial - what cutter was being used in the tutorial?

Leo,

In the tutorial, they are using a 90 deg v-bit to form the chamfers. I've done that before as well with an allowance, but I'm not sure I've done it since upgrading to V8. Perhaps it's a bug in the shopbot edition. I'll post to that forum and see if the shopbot experts have any insight.

Thanks for your reply!

I don't think its the Shopbot version. I saw it that way in Aspire V8 current version. I think it makes some sense to have it, even with a "V" bit.

I agree, it's a great feature for offsetting chamfers as described in the tutorial. Hopefully, one of the Vectric folks sees this and can provide some insight to my problem.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

Some additional info - this only seems to happen on one of my two computers. The allowance offset works fine on my desktop model, but not on my laptop. Both are running Windows 10 and VCarve Pro 8

If you go into the corners option and un-check sharp internal corners the offset allowance will un-grey itself.
