Looking for a way to import a list of rectangles.
Example, I have an excel file with 100 squares and rectangles all of different size. Is there a way I can get this list into carve, other than manually drawing out each rectangle?
Responses are appreciated.

Re: Import multiple rectangles
Have you tried saving them as a pdf then importing them as vectors? Dale

Re: Import multiple rectangles
Paul's free CSV gadget should be able to do that if you export the spreadsheet as a CSV file - http://paulrowntree.weebly.com/gadgets.html
Re: Import multiple rectangles
I guess I should give a better description of what I am trying to do.
We are a cabinet shop and are just starting to cut MDF doors on our router. My cabinet design software will export a list of all the door sizes required for the kitchen design. The list is exported as a CSV file as follows:
Qty Width Height Description
1 12 24 Door
1 12 6 Drawer Front
Etc, etc
So I want to take this list of rectangles (door and drawer fronts) and bring them into vcarve so I can then apply my toolpath templates to them.
dhellew2,
Correct me if I am wrong, I would need the vectors already drawn to save as a pdf. As mentioned above, all I have is a list of sizes.
Adrian,
The CSV gadget showed some signs of hope, but it appears it imports a single vector per line, meaning I would need to to add the XY co-ordinates for each vector of the rectangle. This seems more tedious than just drawing them in.

Re: Import multiple rectangles
The most usual route for this sort of work is to export from the cabinet software as a DXF file and then load that into VCarve rather than using a cutlist.

Re: Import multiple rectangles
Im using KCD and currently export the cabinet parts as DXF files and do exactly what you are saying. To do this with the doors, you need to purchase the door/drawer module for the software which is around $4k. Looking for a cheaper option.

You could look at Cabinet Parts Pro: ->Link
There is also a FreeDoors program floating around. See attachment.

Re: Import multiple rectangles
Free doors doesnt do it either. Still need to manually enter each door. Not only is this time consuming, but it also opens up room for error with typos.

Re: Import multiple rectangles
with sketch up 2014 you could import into V carve pro don't know if it works with the new V carve pro.
if it`s just the size of the doors that`s important and the size`s are the same all the time. just do it in V carve you can type the size in and just make a template for the each door size, then it`s just copy and past for how many doors you wont. boom

Milzie
The CSV gadget can create rectangles, one per output line if you wish. A few months back I added a scripting layer with several primitives like curves, circles, rectangles, polygons, etc.
Feel free to PM me if you need some help
